Spring Birding at Lake Lynn Raleigh

Back in the swing of things with Wake Audubon.  The birds were all paired up for the season.  The Canada Geese were particularly aggressive and noisy.  Must have been nesting nearby.  We saw: Mallards,  Muscovy, Ruddy Ducks, White Throated Sparrow, Song Sparrow, possibly Swamp Sparrow, Phoebe, Towhee, Cardinals, Robins, Brown Thrasher, Goldfinch, Red Shouldered Hawks, Osprey Tufted Titmouse, Carolina Wrens, male and female Cormorants, Kingfisher, Kildeer, and a pair of Great Blue Herons.  No  big score here, but spotted some interesting behaviors and met up with some nice folks.

Duckie Ducks for Easter!

Away from the group a couple of us spotted this goldfinch couple working on a nest.

After most everyone left, these two hawks landed right in front of us.
The one flying away brought some fresh kill for the other one
which fed on it while we watched.  A pretty awesome sight.

I think this is a song sparrow.
